Greeley Police arrested a man on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder, among other charges, in relation to the Friday morning shooting of a Greeley teen that led two Greeley schools to initiate a lockdown.
Daniel Isaac Atencio, 22, was arrested Friday after what police say was a drug deal gone bad near Greeley Central High School.
Atencio was arrested on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder, second-degree assault and illegal discharge of a weapon.
About 10:45 a.m. Friday, three boys attempted to drop off a 15-year-old girl at North Colorado Medical Center, 1801 16th St. The girl had been shot in the side, according to a Greeley Police Department news release. After a Greeley Police officer helped the girl into the ER, the boys fled the scene only to be tracked down a few blocks away, at 16th Street and 23rd Avenue, near Heath Middle School.
A few inconsistent statements later, police zeroed in on a suspect — Atencio — and found him in the 1400 block of 14th Avenue, a block away from Greeley Central High School, 1515 14th Ave.
