Sending a warm message to the men and women serving in the United States military will be easy this holiday season: All you have to do is stop by and fill out a postage-paid postcard.

Letters from Home, presented by Safeway with support from The Denver Post, Western Union and A Million Thanks, launches today and runs through Dec. 3.

“We are honored and excited to support our men and women serving around the world this holiday season,” Michael Mayer, senior vice president of advertising at The Denver Post, said. “Two small gestures we can offer are words of encouragement and warm wishes in support of their sacrifice.  We hope this small gesture brings joy to all those who serve and our wish that they return home safely to their friends and families.”

The goal is to send 75,000 postcards to military personnel deployed over the holidays. The postcards are available while supplies last at participating Front Range Safeways.

The project got its start with the The Post’s advertising staff, many of whom have served in the military or have family who serve and know the difficulties of having loved ones far away. is a non-profit that supports active military and veterans through sending letters, a grant-a-wish program and scholarships.
