Daniel Wade Proffitt

Daniel Wade Proffitt, 47, was arrested on suspicion of four counts of first-degree assault on a peace officer, possession of an explosive device, felony menacing, obstruction of a peace officer and resisting arrest.

Proffitt did not make his scheduled court appearance Monday, but did make his first appearance at the jail courtroom Tuesday. He has yet to post bond and remains in custody.

He is scheduled for a formal filing of charges on Friday.

According to an arrest affidavit, sheriff’s deputies on Sunday were called to the 700 block of Copperdale Lane for a welfare check after Proffitt reportedly tried to commit suicide by using a large amount of narcotics.

When four deputies arrived, they found Proffitt waving a large knife at deputies asking them to kill him.
