Frontier Airlines flight attendants move step closer to a strike

Days after Denver carrier’s pilots announce new deal may be in place, flight attendants escalate push for new contract

Just as contentious contract negotiations with pilots appear headed to an amicable close, flight attendants with have announced they are ready to strike if they can’t reach a new deal with the Denver carrier.

Members of the Frontier unit of the union on Friday voted 99 percent to 1 percent to authorize a strike should contract negotiations with the airline stall to the point federal authorities declare an impasse.

“We are ready to do whatever it takes to get the contract we deserve,” Jennifer Sala, the union’s Frontier president, said in a news release.

The union has picketed Frontier’s hub airports in recent months, according to the new release.

The negotiations are being overseen by the . They are scheduled to continue later this month, according to the AFA. A strike could only legally occur if the board declares that negotiations are deadlocked and a mandatory 30-day “cooling off” period passes.

“We are engaged in negotiations with our flight attendants for a new contract and continue to exchange proposals under the guidance of the National Mediation Board,” Frontier spokesman Jonathan Freed said Wednesday. “We look forward to working toward an agreement that is fair, sustainable, and provides security for everyone.”
