A 22-year-old Thornton man has been arrested for investigation of murder after he allegedly killed his girlfriend at their home, loaded her body into his car and drove to the Powell Police Department in Wyoming  where he confessed, authorities say.

Jonathan Eugene Akin is being held in the Park County Jail pending his extradition to Colorado, according to Sgt. Ernie Lucero, spokesman for the Thornton Police Department.

On Tuesday morning, Powell police went outside and confirmed there was a body of a deceased woman in Akin’s car, Lucero wrote.

Powell police called Thornton police, who then went to the apartment he had shared with his girlfriend at Champion’s Park Apartments, 2525 E. 104th Ave., and confirmed there was evidence that a crime had been committed inside the apartment.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending positive identification by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.
