Fort Collins Thanksgiving crash suspect charged with murder

The crash killed two after the suspect allegedly stole firearms from a pawn shop

The suspect in a fatal crash Thanksgiving morning in Fort Collins was charged with murder Thursday.

Marcos Orozco, 19, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, second-degree burglary and leaving the scene of an accident, according to news release from the Fort Collins Police Department.

Orozco allegedly stole firearms from a pawn shop and was trying to evade police at the time of the crash, according to the release. Earlier, he was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary, vehicular eluding, aggravated motor vehicle theft, aggravated motor vehicle theft, and violations of bail terms, according to Fort Collins Police.

The crash killed an Iowa man and his daughter, who were together for the holiday. John Nees, 55, was a high school math teacher in Cedar Rapids. Nicole Nees, 38, was a resident of Fort Collins.
