Buffzone.com confirmed on Monday a FootballScoop.com report that new Colorado head football coach Mel Tucker is in the process of hiring Jay Johnson as offensive coordinator.

Tucker, hired as CU’s head coach on Wednesday, was the defensive coordinator at Georgia the previous three years and worked alongside Johnson with the Bulldogs. Johnson was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Minnesota in 2016. Prior to that, he served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Louisiana from 2011-15.

A native of Lakeville, Minn., Johnson has been coaching since 1993. During his career, he has been offensive coordinator at Southern Mississippi (2005-07) and Truman State (1995-96). He has also coached at Central Michigan, Louisville and Kansas. At various times, he has coached quarterbacks, running backs and tight ends.

Johnson was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Minnesota in 2016. Prior to that, he served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Louisiana from 2011-15.
