The five ducks separate themselves from the wild geese and ducks at the lake on Jan. 31, 2014. Five domesticated ducks remain from a group of ducks left at Waneka Lake in Lafayette about a year ago. Rhonnie McCauley and her friends have been feeding the ducks since that time. McCauley has plans to relocated the ducks at a pond with other domesticated ducks in the county.

A boy and his dog were both rescued late Saturday afternoon after falling through the thin ice at Waneka Lake in Lafayette.

Lafayette police Sgt. Todd Dobbs said a call was received about 4:45 p.m. Saturday, reporting that a boy was tossing a ball to his dog, when the dog chased the ball out onto Waneka Lake and fell through the ice.

The boy then went out onto the ice to rescue his dog, a Labrador, when he also fell through the ice, according to Dobbs. Other people at the scene went out onto the lake and were able to pull the boy from the water, but could not manage to get the dog out.
