Boulder resident Bryan Robins and his family make cheeky Christmas cards every year to send out to friends and family. They’ve been plumbers and nerds and set up a Colorado-inspired lemonade stand/recreational marijuana dispensary, to name a few.
“Most Christmas cards are very similar — the cutest family photo of the year,” Robins said. “This just didn’t work for me, so I thought we should do something different.
This year’s theme — Robins Paragliding Academy. It may seem like an odd choice, but Robins was grievously injured in July when he crashed his paraglider near Wonderland Lake.
He sustained a compound fracture to his tibia and fibula, a shattered pelvis, three broken ribs, punctured lungs, some brain and internal organ damage. He spent 70 days in the hospital and another month in a rehabilitation clinic and has 48 titanium pins “kind of holding my body together.”
“I’m on the mend,” he said.
Robins thought that since he makes fun of everyone in his yearly Christmas cards, why not himself?
