TUCSON, Ariz. — It was a relatively cold night for anyone who dared venture into the Arizona desert. It was even more so for inside the McKale Center for the Colorado Buffaloes.
Despite a quick start the CU men’s basketball team proved to be no match for Arizona, which steadily pulled away for a 64-56 win Thursday night in the Pac-12 Conference opener for both teams.
Coming off an often listless showing while losing two of three games at the Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii, the Buffs actually put together a solid start, making their first four shots and five of the first six while taking an 11-6 lead.
It was all Arizona the rest of the way, however. Early foul trouble on forwards Lucas Siewert, who picked up his second foul 3 minutes, 35 seconds into the game, and Tyler Bey, who did the same at the 9:23 mark, helped the Wildcats get on a roll, with the hosts outscoring CU 33-13 over the remainder of the first half.
Turnovers once again proved to be the Buffs’ biggest enemy, with CU finishing with 17. It was CU’s second-highest turnover total of the season and the seventh game in a row in which the Buffs committed at least 13 turnovers.
Despite committing a team-leading six turnovers, Wright enjoyed a solid night offensively, going 6-for-10 with a team-leading 17 points.
