The is back for a second year and itap looking to expand on the success of its inaugural event.
Last year there were four rinks, 27 teams and over 150 participants. Like the classic last year, it will all be done with volunteers, donations and sponsors.
The dates for the classic this year are Feb. 2 for the adult tournament and the youth tournament will be the following day on the third.
It is being estimated the classic will be about twice as big as last season.
The Grand Lake Pond Hockey Classic currently has five sponsors including the Frazier Valley Hockey Association, Warrior Avalanche, Grand Lake Chamber of Commerce, Success4Life Tutoring and Parker’s Platoon.
Parker’s Platoon is a non-profit organization that helps combat war veterans. It was founded by former Avs winger Scott Parker and his wife, Francesca. Parker not only is a sponsor of the event but also plays in it as well. He will be joined on the ice this season with other former Avalanche players.
The adult tournament will feature four divisions: beginner, intermediate, advanced and sled hockey. There is a three-game guarantee and the event will be played 3-on-3 format. Cost is $250 per team with 4-7 players per team.
The youth tournament has three divisions and will also be 3-on-3 hockey with four to six players per team. The divisions are broken down by age: Eight and under, Nine-13 and 14 and over. Cost for the youth tournament is a $20 donation per player.
