A thick, white column of smoke rising into the blue skies south of Evergreen prompted numerous emergency calls Sunday morning, but authorities said not to worry.

The smoke is coming from a permitted burn in Jefferson County that is being closely monitored, according to Evergreen Fire Rescue.

The smoke will drift into the valley and down Bear Creek, according to the fire agency.
