BERKELEY, Calif. — It has been a trying month for the Colorado men’s basketball team.

From injuries to guards McKinley Wright and Namon Wright, to guard Deleon Brown getting ruled academically ineligible, and to on-court shortcomings like turnovers and defensive lapses, the Buffaloes’ recent rut has stifled CU’s lofty preseason expectations.

The Buffs earned a momentary reprieve by topping lowly Cal Thursday night on the road, and despite the frustrations of the past month CU still has an opportunity to pull off a feat the program has achieved just once since joining the Pac-12 Conference before the 2011-12 season.

Since then, the Buffs have competed in 29 two-game road series within the league. Only once has CU recorded a road sweep, but the Buffs will have an opportunity to double that total at Stanford’s Maples Pavilion Saturday night.

“If we can somehow find a way to get a win against Stanford, and come back 3-4 (in the league), now we’ve got (seven of 11) at home,” CU head coach Tad Boyle said. “The last time we started out with five of seven on the road we were 0-7 in that period of time, and that was with a veteran group. If we can somehow find a way, that’s what we have to do.”
