A gray SUV ran a red light and slammed into the side of an ambulance early Tuesday morning, pushing the ambulance into signs near light rail tracks at Peoria Street and East 30th Avenue in Aurora, police say.
Two people inside the SUV were taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, said Sgt. Mark Elliot, spokesman for the Aurora Police Department. The names and genders of the victims have not been released.

Southbound Peoria Street has been reopened at East 30th Avenue, according to a 7:35 a.m. Aurora police tweet.
The crash happened at 4:53 a.m. The ambulance was returning from a call and did not have any patients aboard. The emergency lights and sirens were not on at the time, Elliot said.
Two people inside the ambulance were not injured, he said.
The Regional Transportation District service on the light rail tracks continues at the intersection. RTD light rail trains are slowing down when they approach the area, where workers are repairing the signs, Elliot said.
