Having exhausted the few leads they had, Arapahoe County sheriff’s investigators on Monday asked for the public’s help in finding a suspect in the shooting death of a 48-year-old father of six who was seemingly ambushed outside his apartment complex last month.

Investigator Kal Gatchis identified the man as Mark Davis, of Centennial, at a news conference Monday that was

Gatchis said Davis was disabled, walked with a cane, had several medical issues and kept to himself. She added that he was unemployed, had no known enemies and “by all accounts appeared to be a quiet man.” His children range in age from 16 to 28.

Investigators have not determined whether the shooting was targeted or random, but Gatchis said police have no evidence to indicate that more than one person was involved.

Davis was found Jan. 18 lying on a sidewalk in the 14400 block of East Fremont Avenue at the Centennial East Apartments. Gatchis said deputies responded at 7:11 a.m. to a report of an unresponsive male and found that Davis appeared to have been shot multiple times.

Davis was on his way to the bus stop for an appointment, according to Gatchis, and his wallet was found on him. It did not appear he was robbed.

“At this time, the homicide of Mark appears to be an ambush and it is unknown who is responsible for his death,” Gatchis said. “The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office is exhausting the few leads we had and have no suspects at this time.”

Gatchis said the sheriff’s office has increased marked and unmarked police presence in the area and has canvassed the neighborhood, conducting interviews.

“We have literally put all of our resources into solving this homicide,” she said.

Anyone who has tips or information about the homicide or a possible suspect is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 or the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office at 720-874-8477. Anyone who gives investigators information that leads to an arrest and conviction could receive up to $2,000.
