Dangerously cold temperatures reported across Front Range after as much as 7.1 inches of snow fell in downtown Denver, forecasters say.

The Mile High City was in the cross-hairs of Wednesday’s tumultuous snowstorm. Denver suburbs like Aurora recorded only 2.7 inches of snow. Even Boulder got less snow with 5.7 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

The chill Thursday morning is spread fairly evenly across the metro area with recordings ranging from minus 4 in Aurora and Denver International Airport, to minus 12 degrees in Erie.

Some weather variances are fairly odd. On Thursday morning, it was 0 degrees in Boulder, which is 4 degrees warmer than both Denver and Copper Mountain ski resort. Kremmling is even warmer than that at 1 degree at 5:45 a.m.

Taking into account wind chill factors, the air across the Front Range feels like minus 10 to minus 25 degrees, the NWS says.

Forecasters urge residents to bundle up.

“It’s very cold out this morning! If headed outdoors, be sure to dress warmly in several layers of clothing, and include a hat, gloves/mittens, and winter coat,” the weather service warns.

Frostbite can happen in less than 30 minutes, the NWS says.

All day Thursday, temperatures will be well below freezing.

Denver’s high temperature will be near 22 degrees, with wind chill values as low as minus 10 degrees, the NWS says.

Temperatures will rise above freezing on Friday when the high will be about 37 degrees. By Saturday, the high will be around 44 degrees.

Sunday will be cooler, with a high temperature right at the freezing mark at 32 degrees, the NWS says.
