Brighton Fire and Rescue was fighting a large structure fire Friday morning at the Arthur Grain Mill on Main Street, Brighton’s fire chief said.

“The entire building is involved,” Chief Mark Bodane said.

The two-alarm fire started around 7:45 a.m., Bodane said. The old grain mill is abandoned, he said, but added that there were reports of someone living in the building. Firefighters have not seen anyone thus far, Bodane said, and there have been no reported injuries.

The fire has burned through the roof and has moved quickly, the fire chief said. The historic grain building will be a total loss, Brighton Fire tweeted.

“We’ll probably be here all day,” Bodane said.

Pictures from the scene show smoke billowing high in the air as firefighters, standing on snow-covered railroad tracks, attempt to extinguish the flames.

Police advise people to avoid the area. North Main Street has been shut down, Bodane said, along with the railroad.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
