Krista Laures, 27, is facing three felony counts of first-degree introducing contraband, possession with intent to manufacture or distribute a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance on or around Feb. 7, court charging documents show.

Laures, who is not an employee of the Denver Sheriff’s Department, admitted to a police detective that she had taken the suspected meth into in the jail for an inmate, according to a Denver police probable cause statement.

She was arrested on Feb. 20 and booked into the jail. She was not listed in the jail as of Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Denver Sheriff’s Department, Laures worked for an organization that contracts with the jail called Learning Source, which teaches GED and English-as-a-second-language courses.

A message left for the company was not immediately returned on Tuesday.

In a statement, the sheriff’s department said Laures is banned from the facility and that it takes the introduction of contraband very seriously.

“The DSD partners with many contractor and volunteer organizations who provide extremely beneficial programs to inmates,” the statement said. “We ensure background checks, training and posted rules are provided to all volunteers and contractors, including contraband, and are strictly enforced as in this case.”

Laures is scheduled for a hearing on March 11, according to the district attorney’s office.
