Man dies while in custody at Denver’s Downtown Detention Center

A man died while in custody at the Downtown Detention Center on Sunday, the announced.

The man, identified by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner as 44-year-old Gabriel Apodaca, was found unresponsive in a housing unit at about 2 p.m. He was taken to the , where he was pronounced dead, according to the sheriff’s news release.

Apodca’s cause and manner of death remain under investigation.
