A steady snowstorm that could last 72 hours straight in some parts of Colorado is already piling snow up in the mountains and by the time it is done Sunday night it could reach 3 feet of snow, forecasters say.
Denver won’t get a steady dose of snow and is likely to get between 3 and 6 inches of snow but could get more under the right conditions, said Todd Dankers, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Boulder.
“It’s already snowing in the mountains. It’s going to be a very prolonged event in the mountains. Even if it snows lightly for 72 hours that will leave a lot of snow,” Dankers said Friday morning. “It’s going to be a heck of a lot of snow in some locations. We’re talking 2 to 3 feet.”
In Denver, light snow flurries could start falling Friday night and by Sunday drop up to 9 inches of snow along the Front Range, the NWS says.
The main part of the storm will hit Denver Saturday afternoon and night, Dankers said.

Dankers warned that the steady snow could cause difficult driving conditions across much of the state.
“CDOT (Colorado Department of Transportation) is going to be busy trying to keep the roads clear,” Dankers said.
Vail is expected to receive a foot of new snow, while Boulder could get 9 inches of snow, the NWS says.
Snow flurries could start falling Friday night in Denver. The high temperature will be around 49 degrees.
