As snow continues to pile up at Front Range resorts with mind-boggling measurements and storm frequency, another area has announced an extension of its season.

Winter Park officials today said the Mary Jane side of the resort will remain open through May 12, a three-week extension from its previously planned closing. Breckenridge announced in January that it would remain open through Memorial Day, a four-week extension of its previously announced closing date.

Winter Park/Mary Jane has received 250 inches of snow this season, 15 percent above average. Nearly 40 inches fell in a three-day storm that began last Friday. And yet another storm dumped an additional 11 inches over the previous 24 hours this morning. More storms are forecast for this weekend.

Mary Jane’s May 12 closing would represent the second-latest closing in its history, resort officials said, exceeded only by a May 25 closing in 1998. Skiers and snowboarders can expect to have access to high-alpine terrain above Mary Jane in Parsenn Bowl. The Winter Park side of the resort will close as scheduled on April  21.
