Traffic is at a standstill heading eastbound on I-70 of snow and ice on March 3, 2019 in Silverthorne. Westbound I-70 was shut down for hours after a multi-car pile up forced the closure. Icy roads, heavy snow, single digit temperatures, decreased visibility made for hazardous driving in the mountains.

Westbound Interstate 70 was closed over Vail Pass for about and hour Tuesday morning due to several vehicle crashes.
The crash happened at mile marker 184, according to an 8:22 a.m. tweet by the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The highway, which was closed at mile marker 190, reopened just before 9:45 a.m., the highway department said.
