At Salt River Fields, Scottsdale, Ariz.
On the mound: Left-hander Kyle Freeland, a little rusty after missing his last Cactus League start because of illness, gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits across four innings. After giving up a two-run home run to Matt Szczur in the second, Freeland retired the next nine batters, striking out five. He had six total strikeouts vs. no walks. … Lefty Mike Dunn, coming off shoulder surgery in September, continues to pitch well. He tossed a perfect sixth, whiffing two. Over five spring innings, he’s allowed no runs, two hits, walked none and struck out seven. … Righty Bryan Shaw, who’s struggled early, pitched a clean seventh, striking out one. His cut fastball, however, topped out at 90.4 mph.
At the plate: Charlie Blackmon batting 3-for-19 entering the game, hit a one-out, solo home run in the third, his first of spring. … Trevor Story hit his second homer, a solo shot to right-center in the sixth. … David Dahl is raking. He went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.
Worth noting: Reliever Scott Oberg closed out the game with a bare-handed grab and throw off speedy Tim Locastro’s squibber near the mound. … Infield prospect Brendan Rodgers pulled off two diamond gems at third base.
