The Avalanche and its fans hated them. Sergei Fedorov. Slava Kozlov. Igor Larionov. Viacheslav Fetisov. Vladimir Konstantinov. They were Detroit’s Russian Five, some of the heavy hitters in the Avalanche-Red Wings rivalry of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The award-winning documentary, The Russian Five, is coming to Colorado on Friday, playing at the Alamo Drafthouse Sloans Lake.
“The rivalry between the Colorado Avalanche and the Detroit Red Wings is one of the most heated in all of sports. With the anniversary of the famous brawl that kicked off the rivalry coming up on March 26th we hope hockey fans in Denver will come out to the theater and remember when both teams were titans of the NHL, “ Russian Five producer Steve Bannatyne said in a release. “These two teams battled year after year to win the Stanley Cup and were responsible for some of the most exciting hockey games I’ve ever seen in my life. I truly believe even devout Red Wings haters in Denver will enjoy this movie!”
