Denver International Airport, for the second year in a row, has has been voted by passengers as the best regional airport in North America and was recognized as the top-ranked airport in the United States.

The annual Skytrax World Airport Awards were announced Wednesday in London, and DIA received additional honors, including No. 2 airport in North America (highest-rated U.S. airport), No. 7 regional airport in the world and No. 3 airport staff in North America.

The awards are in a worldwide airport customer satisfaction survey, according to a DIA news release.

Travelers voted Vancouver International Airport as the best in North America, according to the survey results.

The awards are considered a global benchmark of airport excellence, according to the DIA news release. The survey, over a six-month period, tapped travelers from more than 100 countries who had used more than 550 airports.

The survey evaluated customer satisfaction across multiple travel experiences, including check-in, arrivals, departures, transfers, shopping, security and immigration process, the release stated.

In 2018, DIA celebrated a fifth consecutive year of record-setting passenger traffic, with 64.5 million passengers served, a 5.1-percent increase over 2017, airport officials said. International traffic in Denver also set growth records in 2018; the airport served nearly 3 million passengers, about a 14 percent jump over 2017.

DIA, a long-time favorite subject among conspiracy theorists, is currently in the midst of a $650 million renovation project on its Great Hall.
