
Hundreds of flights failed to leave the gate on time at Denver International Airport on Sunday as afternoon thunderstorms hit Colorado’s Eastern Plains.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a weather-based departure delay at DIA shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday, . Departing flights were being delayed by an average of 15 minutes at 3 p.m., but delays were expected to increase, according to the FAA.
Southwest delayed 152 flights in and out of Denver on Sunday, followed by 137 from United, 61 from SkyWest, 16 from Frontier and 12 from American Airlines, according to FlightAware. Another seven airlines delayed between one and five flights, and United canceled all seven flights.
