The indirect benefits of full-day kindergarten
Re: “House Bill 1262 receives gold stars at hearing,” April 10 news story
One plus to consider when discussing full-day kindergarten and its cost: full-day kindergarten frees up parents and other day care providers to work full-time, pay taxes and get health care.
Also, full-day kindergarten helps children, especially in low income environments, learn to read and allows these children to be on par with other children who are already getting a full day’s education benefits.
As a former teacher and grandparent I endorse this bill.

Hickenlooper lacks the political will for a Green New Deal
Re: “The Green New Deal sets us up for failure,” March 27 John Hickenlooper guest commentary
John Hickenlooper (aka Frackenlooper) is an oil and gas industry shill: his opinion on the Green New Deal is hardly credible.
According to him, we can’t reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in 10 years, and he suggests that the Green New Deal could cause higher utility bills, rising taxes, and lost jobs.
Maybe he doesn’t realize how fast new technologies are being developed, and that last year Xcel Energy received shockingly low bids on renewable energy, with battery storage, that could save customers millions of dollars.
He may not know clean energy jobs outnumber fossil fuel jobs 3 to 1, and currently there are 3.2 million clean energy jobs in America.
And he should know that the remediation of hundreds of orphaned oil and gas wells could cost Coloradan taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars. Itap time to let the public control their energy and push policies that update America’s infrastructure to clean renewables. The person who says they can, and the person who says they can’t, are both correct. It all comes down to political will.

Recalls work if Dems don’t vote
Re: “Recall in Weld County,” April 5 news story
Itap worth noting that the state GOP tactic of using recall elections to get what they want only worked the last time because the Democrats didn’t come out to vote in the numbers they usually do in elections, which should serve as a stark warning to Democratic leaning voters. We must remain vigilant against a state GOP party that isn’t really interested in the issues that matter to the majority.

Thanks for the new state logo
Thank you, Gov. Jared Polis, for updating Colorado’s logo to better represent “colorful’ Colorado. Now, I suggest replacing the “Welcome to Colorado” signs on the highways entering our state. They are brown — not in the least colorful. Boring! I’ll bet some lottery money could be used for the change.
