Tyson Foods is recalling nearly 12 million pounds of frozen chicken strips that may have been contaminated with pieces of metal, federal food safety officials said in a news release Saturday.
The recall is an expansion of a March 21 recall, which consisted of 69,000 pounds of chicken strips.
The federal Food Safety and Inspection Service department discovered the problem when the agency received two consumer complaints of “extraneous material” in the chicken strips, the inspection service said. The agency has received six complaints, all involving similar pieces of metal. Three people alleged oral injury, the release said.
The chicken in question was produced between Oct. 1 and March 8, the agency said, and have “use by dates” of Oct. 1, 2019, through March 7, 2020. Consumers are urged to throw away or return any products from this time period.
