Bad excuse for a war
Re: “Worries flare that U.S., Iran are closer to war,” May 15 new story
While the international community may be worried about a new U.S. war, anyone in this country who values democracy should be even more worried about a pre-election war with Iran (or North Korea, or whomever).
No, this is not Democratic Party blather about finding another reason to poke at Donald Trump (I am not a capital-D Democrat).
Consider that this is a person who disdains laws that might impinge on his self-imagined greatness, attacks the independent news media (even though they largely facilitated his election), calls for an all-about-him Independence Day rally, initially wanted a U.S. version of a May Day parade for himself, and openly admires dictators around the world. Is this not someone who would gladly declare martial law in 2020?
Are our U.S. senators and congressmen prepared to resist in defense of our freedoms? By now, they should know better than to believe Trump will display any loyalty to them for pandering to him.

Nation under threat
Supplanting his role as whiner in chief — unfair investigations, presidential harassment — Donald Trump is now refusing to work with the Congress on anything unless it abandons its constitutionally mandated oversight responsibilities. Now itap the infrastructure needs of the nation being held hostage in an attempt to make the presidentap coverup of his activities succeed. Such threats to the nation will likely be repeated culminating in September when the federal government must raise the debt limit or face catastrophic economic and financial consequences.
Does anyone seriously doubt that Trump would also use this danger to protect himself?

Trump should celebrate Fourth
Re: “Trump should leave the Fourth of July alone,” May 15 editorial
Well, The Denver Post tries again!
I opened the paper to the editorial page (because there’s nothing else worth spending time on), and I see “Trump should leave the Fourth of July alone!”
Heaven forbid we should celebrate our nation’s birthday, instead of debating what bathrooms to use!
Quoting: “The Fourth of July should be a time to remember what binds us as a country, not exploit what divides us.”
Hello! Do a little research into the last administration, instead of showing your animus toward a duly elected president who has done more for the good of this great country than the past six to eight presidents combined!

Ignoring subpoenas
Isn’t Donald Trump telling those in his administration to ignore congressional subpoenas the definition of obstruction of justice?

Skip tariffs, buy local
Actually, the China tariff policy is very simple. Read the label. If it says “Made in China,” don’t buy it.
Made in America might be a tad more expensive, but itap well worth the comfort to know that the goods purchased are keeping jobs here in the good old USA. Searching for the cheapest goods possible ignores the problem and is very counterproductive.
