Bikers and hikers, make alternate plans if you’re thinking of heading into Waterton Canyon starting next week.

On Monday, the popular Douglas County recreation area will shut down for five days, re-open for the weekend of June 8 and 9, and then shut down again for five days through June 14. Denver Water is performing its annual dust mitigation efforts.

Neither the parking lot at the canyon’s entrance nor the canyon will be accessible during the weekday work.

Those who hike and bike on the Colorado Trail will need to find alternative access points during the closure. They can be found at .
