Jon Gray believes in Kyle Freeland.
After Gray pitched 6 ⅔ scoreless innings Saturday night in the Rockies’ 4-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays, Gray was asked about Freeland, the left-hander who was shipped down to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.
“He just needs to feel like himself, for a little bit. That’s what I had to do,” Gray said, referring to his two-start demotion to Triple-A last June. “Kyle’s going to be just fine. He’s got something special and he believes in himself. He’ll figure it out.”
Dahl delivers. Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story have grabbed the recent headlines, but outfielder David Dahl is hitting his stride. Dahl hit 3-for-4 Saturday, his seventh game with three or more hits this season. He’s batting .452 (19-for-42) over his last 11 games.
High-water mark. The Rockies have won seven straight and are three games over .500 for the first time this season (30-27). With their victory Saturday night, they moved half-game in front of San Diego (30-28) and into second place in the National League West. The Rockies are still 8 ½ games behind the first-place Dodgers (40-19).
