A flash fire at a gas plant in northern Colorado burned three people who were taken by ambulance and helicopter to a hospital for treatment, an assistant fire chief said.

The explosion happened at 9:10 a.m. near Weld County Road 71, according to Dan Harms, assistant fire chief of the Pawnee Fire Protection District in Grover, Colo.

The three contractors were working on a compressor at a Summit Midstream gas plant when a flash fire erupted, burning each of them, he said.

Two of the burn victims were taken by helicopter and one by ambulance to a hospital, Harms said.

Harms did not know the condition of the victims.
