The Glendale Raptors didn’t go far to find their new head coach.

Peter Borlase, who served as an assistant coach this past season, will take the reins from David Williams, who was fired earlier this month after the Raptors finished 7-7-2 and missed the Major League Rugby playoffs.

“I have observed Pete coaching at various levels over the years, and he not only has the expertise needed for this level, but has a player-centered approach that works well in this modern era,” Raptors general manager and director of rugby Mark Bullock said in a news release. “We are convinced Pete will be a great leader for this team moving forward.”

The New Zealand-born Borlase has prior coaching experience in Spain, USA U-20s, the Denver Stampede of PRO Rugby and the Denver Barbarians Rugby Football Club.
