This year, celebrate Colorado’s birthday in the most Colorado way possible: Going outdoors.

In honor of Colorado Day, is offering free admittance to all 41 state parks this coming Monday, Aug. 5.

You may be scratching your head a bit considering Colorado Day is, well, Thursday yet the free parks day is Monday. But Parks and Wildlife explained in a press statement that it always celebrates Colorado Day on the first Monday of August.

Unfortunately, other park fees, such as camping reservations and fishing licenses, will still be in effect Monday.

Military members and veterans can get free entrance to state parks during the month of August.

Colorado was granted statehood in 1876 by President Ulysses S. Grant, who is known among Coloradan school children as the president with the hardest first name to spell. Regardless, Coloradans still appreciate Grant’s decision 143 years later.
