Art collective — which is bringing a permanent installation to Denver in 2021 — is teaming up with the Denzer Zoo for a “Zooscovery Maker Day” filled with animal-themed activities.
On Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., kids and adults will be able to make animal masks, egg carton creatures and soda bottle bubble art. There also will be a group project: creating a papier mâché lion.
The event will be included with general admission to the zoo and is part of Meow Wolf’s ongoing Maker Day series, which shares art programming with families throughout the Denver metro area.
Then, starting at 6 p.m., the zoo will host a ticketed viewing party of “Meow Wolf: Origin Story,” a documentary about the art collective and how “Game of Thrones” creator George R.R. Martin and renovate the old Silva Lanes bowling alley on the south side of Santa Fe, N.M. Meow Wolf’s first permanent, immersive art installation, “,” was launched in Santa Fe in March 2016 and allows guests to wander through a multidimensional mystery house with secret passages.

Viewing party guests at the Denver Zoo will meet animal ambassadors and get to try out ChromaDepth glasses while enjoying complimentary appetizers and live DJs. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at , with proceeds benefiting the zoo.
The name “Meow Wolf” came from the collective’s very first meeting in 2008, when attendees put two words into a hat. “Meow” and “Wolf” were then randomly drawn.
In addition to the upcoming Denver location, Meow Wolf will open permanent locations in in 2020, in ., in 2022 and in at an underdetermined date.
