A man has been arrested for investigation of attempted murder after allegedly shooting a Costilla County deputy multiple times while the deputy was responding to a burglary call at a home early Wednesday morning, a Colorado State Patrol trooper said.
Jackie Wampler Jr. was arrested several hours after the early morning shooting, Trooper Gary Cutler said Wednesday afternoon.

The deputy, who has not been identified, was taken to a hospital in stable condition, according to Costilla County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
The shooting happened as the deputy arrived at a home at Sangre de Cristo Ranches at 4:11 a.m., the news release said.
