A woman suspected in a Grand Junction stabbing was shot by police outside of a fast food restaurant, according to law enforcement.
Grand Junction police officers responded to reports of a person with a knife inside a Dairy Queen at 709 North Ave. at about 6:30 p.m. Friday, according to a .
When officers arrived, they found a person matching the suspect’s description in the parking lot, sheriff’s officials said. Investigators said the officers shot the woman in the parking lot, but the events leading up to the shooting were not specified in the release.
The woman, who has not been publicly identified, fled the lot and crashed into several vehicles before stopping near the intersection of North First Street and North Avenue, sheriff’s officials said.
Paramedics took the woman to the hospital, where she died, according to the release. One person “with injuries consistent with a knife assault” and another who was injured in one of the crashes were also taken to the hospital.
The suspect will be identified at a later date by the Mesa County Coroner’s Office.
The Grand Junction police officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, per department policy, sheriff’s officials said.
