Denverites can expect to see some partly cloudy skies and a high near 94 degrees on Thursday.

The day time will likely bring increasing clouds and winds 5 to 9 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. The evening is expected to bring a temperature near 60 degrees with calmer winds.

Although some rain is forecast for Friday from a cold front with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon, the weather Thursday will likely remain hot and dry in Denver with some isolated showers in the mountains and foothills, according to the weather service. That means fire danger remains elevated.

The high temperatures Thursday are above normal, the weather service said on Twitter. Forecasters predict a high of 87 degrees for Friday, which will likely go back up to 89 degrees Saturday, 94 on Sunday and 96 on Labor Day.

The cold front Friday is expected to bring some strong to severe storms in the mountains that could bring along strong wind gusts and hail, according to the weather service. That will likely make way for a hot and mostly dry Labor Day weekend, followed by another cold front Tuesday.
