A scooter rider was hospitalized Monday evening after allegedly colliding with a car at an intersection in the Baker neighborhood.

The rider failed to stop at a stop sign around 5 p.m. and collided with a car near the intersection of East First Avenue and North Cherokee Street, Denver police spokesman Kurt Barnes said.

“The scooter appears to be the at-fault vehicle,” he said.

The rider sustained injuries to her face and appeared to break a bone but is expected to survive, Barnes said.

Police closed westbound lanes of East First Avenue after the crash but the lanes are expected to re-open this evening, Barnes said.

There were no indications that drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.

Denver recorded its first known fatal scooter accident in August after a man rode a Lyft scooter into oncoming traffic.
