A 22-year-old woman found dead Monday evening in an apartment in the Sakura Square area has been identified as Alexis Bush, the Denver medical examiner’s office said Thursday.

Police responded shortly before 5 p.m. Monday to a report that a man had barricaded himself in an apartment in the Tamai Tower at 1255 19th St.

Matthew Martin, 24, had called Bush’s friend stating that Bush, his girlfriend, was dead, according to a probable cause statement. The friend then called police requesting a welfare check. After about an hour, Martin let police into the apartment, where they found Bush’s body and began a homicide investigation.

Martin initially was taken to Denver Health and on Tuesday morning conducted an interview with police. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and held at the Denver County jail without bail.

Bush’s death was ruled a homicide caused by a single gunshot wound to the forehead.
