Denver police arrested a 24-year-old man who had barricaded himself in an apartment Monday in connection with the death of a woman found inside the same apartment building, authorities said.

Police responded to a report of a possibly barricaded person at 4:56 p.m. at a complex at 1255 19th St. in the Union Station neighborhood and said the incident turned into a death investigation, though they declined to say how that occurred.

On Wednesday, the Denver Police Department said on Twitter that officers found a woman’s body in the apartment after the barricaded man left. Detectives are now investigating her death as a homicide.

Matthew Martin was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder.

He is being held at the Denver County Jail without bond, jail records show.
