Monte Vista couldn’t quite keep up with a strong Florence squad, losing by a score of 48-19 on Friday, Sept. 20.

Florence quarterback Josh Martinez led the passing attack with 99 yards through the air. Martinez also added 57 yards on the ground. Maddaxx Howard lead all Florence receivers with three catches for 34 yards.

Florence’s rushing game was spearheaded by Owen Busetti who ran for 196 yards and five touchdowns in the game, averaging 13.1 yards per carry. Busetti also tacked on 33 receiving yards and one touchdown. Jacob Kennedy added 112 yards and one touchdown on the ground, averaging 8 yards per carry.

Kaidon Wenta led Monte Vista’s passing attack with 146 yards through the air, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions. Wenta also added 166 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Monte Vista’s leading receiver was Andres Maestas, who caught four passes for 62 yards. Jarren Chavez got in on the action in the passing game as well, catching four passes for 57 yards and one touchdown.

In addition to Wenta’s effort, Cobi Garcia paced the Monte Vista rushing attack by racking up 46 yards and one touchdown in the contest, averaging 5.1 yards per carry.

Florence will play host to Trinidad, while Monte Vista will travel to play Rocky Ford.
