A driver suspected of hitting a student in a wheelchair, and fleeing the Thornton scene, has been arrested, police said.

Peter A. Kennedy, 67, of Thornton, has been arrested on suspicion of careless driving, and hit-and-run, police said Wednesday.

On Tuesday morning, a juvenile was hit by a black Ford F-150 pickup truck in the 9300 block of York Street, police said. The truck sideswiped the student, who was knocked off his electric wheelchair. The student suffered injuries and his wheelchair was damaged.

The driver fled the scene, heading north on York Street.
