Motorists hoping for a scenic drive through Clear Creek Canyon on U.S. 6 on Saturday are going to be disappointed.
The section of the highway will close from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m, the Colorado Department of Transportation said in a news release.
The closure is to ensure the safety of nearly 500 volunteers and staff participating in the National Public Lands Day cleanup, who will be collecting trash, restoring habitats and participating in “erosion control” throughout a 13-mile stretch of the canyon.
Drivers are asked take Interstate 70 westbound and eastbound, adding five to 10 minutes of travel time. Central city and Black Hawk can be accessed by taking Exit 243 from I-70 or travelling east on U.S. 6, then north on Colorado 119.
