Bernhardt forgot to mention climate change’s impact

Re: “The fire season was mild; we prepared for the worst,” Sept. 24 guest commentary

David Bernhardt manages to verbally swell with pride in his piece about firefighting efforts which highlight fuel breaks and other wildfire reduction strategies. These would include “controlling the fuel that allows fires to spread.” Read: clearing the forest floor as referred to in the past by our uninformed president. Ridicule of that statement has never been forgotten by the thin-skinned Donald Trump. Bernhardt also mentions “chemical treatments” without further explanation. I am curious about chemicals used on our public lands.

However, I am most disappointed by Bernhardtap lack of mention of the multiplier in the continuing wildfire threat, which is unchecked, human-caused climate chaos. This needs to be acknowledged in any serious policy discussion. We and our leaders must consciously and constantly connect the dots.

RTD ignored the north

Re: “N-Line delay angers cities,” Sept. 26 news story

I moved to the Thornton area in 2004, when talk of the train excited us all. No more fighting traffic to get downtown. The “positive train control” and gate-timing issues don’t seem to be an issue for any of the trains south of I-70, so why is it a game-stopper for the north?

While we in the north have paid taxes to RTD for 15 years, the south has added trains in an expedited fashion, it seems.
Since we won’t see a train for a good while, we should have free rides for a few years. RTD can pay for it with higher fares on the southern train lines they have favored for years. Signed, feeling ignored in the north.

Immediate action on emissions

Re: “Latest U.N. report says oceans, Arctic areas are in ‘big trouble,’ ” Sept. 26 news story

I am writing as a very concerned citizen. Report after report after report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change paint a devastating picture of our future. We need immediate national action to address climate change. We need to put a price on carbon and immediately reduce our emissions.

I also urge The Denver Post to adopt an editorial policy calling for the same national action. Please continue to bring the news to the world and paint this picture, in the hopes of true and immediate action!

ap creep in The Post, AP

Re: “Dems blast Trump crisis, but what will they do?” Sept. 22 news story

Need more proof that “journalism” is toast and that The Denver Post and The Associated Press helped kill it? The first sentence of the front-page article on Sunday begins as follows: “A whistle-blower’s complaint over President Donald Trump’s interactions with a foreign leader is testing the political and practical power Democrats can use against a Republican in the White House … .” Fairly factual, although some opinion of the authors begins to creep in. Then comes the unprofessional conclusion of the sentence: “… who so brazenly ignores protocol and presidential norms.”

There we find 100% opinion that belongs not on the front page but somewhere on the editorial page. When I see bylines that include the name of these two authors, I’ll know to ignore the “reporting” and move on to the sports section. No problem with your or their opinions, but put them where they belong, rather than passing them off as rock-solid facts on which all can rely. Itap not easy trying to support our local daily while watching this trend persist.
