A skateboarder on the 16th Street Mall was seriously injured after being struck by a van Monday afternoon.

Denver police responded to the crash near the intersection of the 16th Street Mall and Arapahoe Street just after noon Monday. Police spokesman Jay Casillas said the skateboarder’s injuries were severe, but the man was expected to survive.

The skateboarder crossed the intersection when he wasn’t allowed, Casillas said. The van had the right of way.

Arapahoe Street closed briefly after the crash, but reopened, Casillas said.

The skateboarder will face a citation for crossing the street against a traffic signal.
