Elementary school has new classrooms
McKinley-Thatcher Elementary School in Denver Public Schools has six new classrooms after a $5 million renovation funded by the 2016 bond sales.
The work also included a new art studio and science lab, as well as renovations to restrooms and the front office. The school is about 42 years old.
New school opens
Fusion Academy, which has more than 50 campuses around the country, recently opened a new school at 5340 S. Quebec St. in Greenwood Village.
It uses a one-to-one model, where each student is paired with a single instructor, for grades six to 12. Students also don’t receive homework, though they do complete out-of-class assignments in a “homework cafe.” The school charges tuition based on how many classes a student takes each semester.
One CO school among nation’s healthiest
Only one school in Colorado made the list of 355 across the country that have promoted healthy eating, exercise and mental wellness.
The Alliance for a Healthier Generation ranks participating schools as bronze, silver or gold, depending on their policies. Greeley-Evans School District 6’s Monfort Elementary School, , was ranked bronze.
All ranked schools meet federal nutrition standards for school meals, offer breakfast daily, include physical activity in the day, update their wellness policies regularly and involve the community in health-related decisions.
