Basalt handed Paonia a loss in a 20-0 showdown on Friday, Sept. 27 at Homecoming.
Matty Gillis powered Basalt’s passing attack with 113 yards through the air, throwing one touchdown with no interceptions. Gillis also added one touchdown on the ground. Gillis’ most prolific target in the ballgame was Jackson Rappaport, who caught five passes for 55 yards and one score.
Basalt’s ground game was spearheaded by Cole Dombrowski who ran for 24 yards and one touchdown in the game, averaging 4 yards per carry.
Logan Green paced all Paonia rushers with 27 yards in the game.
Basalt will stay home and play Moffat County, while Paonia will travel to play Hotchkiss.
