This weekend marks the 38th Great American Beer Festival, which started at Boulder’s Harvest House hotel in 1982. Around 800 beer fans attended the first event. This year, more than 62,000 people will try 4,000 beers from 800-plus breweries, according to GABF, and we already found some. There are still three sessions remaining this year — one tonight and two on Saturday — plus Saturday morning’s awards ceremony and tons of after-parties and peripheral events happening all over Denver.

In honor of all the beer flowing around Denver right now, check out a slideshow of the very first GABF and learn about thethatap poured at every fest. If nothing else, these photos worth a look just to enjoy the facial hair.
