People hoping to use Denver’s light rail system to travel across the city will have fewer options to choose from Tuesday due to a shortage of operators.

Officials with the Regional Transportation District canceled multiple trips on the C, D, E, F and R lines, according to alerts sent early Tuesday morning. Travel times on the A Line that travels to Denver International Airport are expected to be up to 30 minutes longer than usual in both directions due to a medical emergency earlier Tuesday morning.

The public transportation agency has struggled to recruit and retain bus drivers and light rail operators in a tight labor market. Last week, transportation officials announced a proposal to temporarily cut services to reduce the need for mandatory overtime.

RTD staff are expected to present the proposal to the board of directors Tuesday.
